No we aren't talking about spending major bucks on radio control - we still fly
the inexpensive rubber or gas powered free flight jobs (or even gliders) you built back then.

If the idea sounds like fun, we have a deal which lets you join the Pensacola Free Flight Team, and if you build a model and fly with us, your first year membership dues in both AMA and our local chapter will be FREE! If that sounds good - read on!!

What Does It Cost to Join?

If you are serious about joining, it won't cost you anything for dues for the first year.

Here's the deal --
You must Join the Academy of Model Aeronautics (We'll provide you with an application - just call, snail mail or email) That will cost you $58 ($48 if you are older than 65) ($15 if you are younger than 19).

The first year's dues to the Pensacola Free Flight Team will be $15. Then, if you build a model and bring it to the Navy Site 8A and fly with us at least 3 times during the first year, we'll refund your AMA dues and your PFFT dues after your third time flying with us. Thus, all your first year's dues will be FREE!

Why Do I Need To Join AMA?

The AMA is the parent organization of which we are a charter. In addition to a monthly magazine, AMA provides liability insurance and will defend you should some unforeseen event occur while flying at our official flying site or in one of our nationally known competitions. The Navy requires that everyone flying on their property be a member of AMA

Where Do We Fly?

We enjoy the privilege of being guests of the U.S. Navy who allow us to use the Helicopter Field Site 8A, on highway 90, 1.7 miles west of the Interstate 10 Exit 5 (Old Exit 1). See map.

When Do We Fly?

We fly almost every Saturday morning when the wind is reasonably calm. We are a pretty relaxed bunch, but we are almost always on the field by about 0900.

What if I don't live in the Pensacola Area?

If you don't live in easy driving distance of Pensacola, but would like to have flying privileges with us, we'd be pleased to have you as an Associate member. We can't offer the offer of free membership deal, but many free flight enthusiasts across the nation are Associate members and take advantage of our flying field any time they have the chance. Just check the appropriate box on the membership application and send the $15 annual membership fee and you'll receive our newsletter and be welcome at our flying site. You MUST be an AMA member to fly at this site.

What if I just want to subscribe to the Thermalier Newsletter?
